Hey, want to spend some time together? This classic couple would love to! This time in our lives is our busiest with living for God, running a business, parenting a teenager and trying to find time to spend with each other. Even so, this is the time when we want to invite you in, pour you a nice cold glass of sweet tea, and offer you a seat. We would then introduce ourselves by telling you that we are Curtis and Tracy Slama and we live in Cypress, Texas, which is a suburb outside of the big sprawling city of Houston. You may look around a bit before we would start making small talk and discussing the weather, which is mostly hot and always humid here in Houston. Before long, we would ask about your world and talk about any great things that happened. Your life story is very important to you and we are very much interested in it, too.
After we refreshed your tea, we would go on to tell you that our lives together began when we met at a Red Lobster in Houston and got married less than one year later. After 17 years of marriage we are still having a great time. We have an adult daughter, teenage son, two granddaughters, two dogs, and a cat and any one of those or a combination of all of them can test that fun sometimes. Looking at our lives, though, we realize that we are very blessed and continue to count those blessings day after day.
To further complete the fun, we are running a small business called Classic Pool and Spas (which I am dubbing CP&S from here on out), which is a pool cleaning and repair service in Cypress, Texas. CS&P services the Cypress, Woodlands, Spring, Tomball and Northwest side of Houston. Curtis and I began Classic Pool and Spas in 2008 with God’s grace and the encouragement from a friend who was already in the business. Curtis started cleaning pools and repairing equipment by himself with very little knowledge and training. His first day out was frustrating but he kept at it and a few months later, our first employee was hired. Fast forward a few years and, before we knew it, we have multiple employees and 300+ customers.
With this business, you never know how each day will go. It could be a normal “everything is under control” day or as unpredictable as needing to push one of the work trucks out of the street at 7am because it broke down. Even though things can be crazy, God is definitely writing this story because we look back on where we came from and are not sure how we got here. Our faith is foremost in our lives and we want to live each day to show that faith to our employees and customers.
Even though faith is foremost, there is one part of our lives that has taken a backseat and that would be spending time with each other. With so many other things going on, we try to take time to nurture our relationship, but, in all honesty, it is a low priority. Date nights are sprinkled here and there as well as time spent with other couples because we know this is important.
